David Thompson - Horology at the British Museum.

David is the Senior Curator of the Horological Dept. at the British Museum. The Club welcomes another visit from David who's reputation is respected Worldwide.


March 6th

Patrick Powers - But it's wrong..! Sundials & telling the Time by the Sun
Patrick's interest in Sundials goes back many years. His career began in Scientific Instruments & although after 20 years moved into I.T. he continued with his hobby - "Sundials" - After joining the British Sundial Society he eventually served on it's Council for 14 years. Also responsible for the National Database of known Sundials for 10 years. Look forward to an interesting evening about "Time" pre - Clocks /Watches

April 3rd

Grahame Brooks - Postcards in Time - From "Big Ben" to the Wristwatch.
Grahame is a Freeman of the Goldsmiths Company, Liveryman of the Clockmakers Company, past freelance contributor of the HJ, International Wristwatch, QP & Editor of Sotheby's Guide to Watches. (awaiting publication)

Dr. Colin Lattimore - The History of the Long Case Clock
Colin is a Liveryman & member of the Court of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers & was Master in 1999/2000 the same year he was President of the British Horological Institute. He is Keeper of the Company Silver. - Since 1999 he has been Honorary Keeper of Clocks & Watches at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.

July 3rd

Robert Loomes - Clockmakers during the Industrial Revolution
Robert worked in the family business before moving to Stamford & opening his own showroom & workshop twenty years ago. Today he employs six full-time clockmakers & watchmakers specialising in restoration. He is a Liveryman of the Clockmakers Company & in 2011/12 served as a steward to the Company.

August 7th

Matthew Reed - The Conservation of Clocks
Last year Matthew visited the club & gave an excellent talk on the restoration of the "Bowes Swan" automoton. This was followed by a visit by members of the club to West Dean College Sussex where he is head of the horological dept. - We are delighted to welcome him back for another very interesting evening.

David Higgon - The twin pendulum "Grasshopper" Escapement Clock
After university David had, to quote, "a succession of Jobs" but following advise he intended to study at West Dean College for a year. This ended up as three years, the last two of which were spent working on a twin pendulum grasshopper clock, the subject of his talk. - He is currently working within the Charles Frodsham Group.

November 6th

Jerry Stone - "Time for Space"
Gerry's interest in astronomy & space goes back some 45 years ago. Since then he has spoken at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh Festival, the Royal Institution & Palace of Westminster. He has also created a range of Space workshops for schools which he presents all over the U.K.
